Kuwait English School’s Art and DT block was vibrant with colour from Thursday the 29th March to Saturday the 31st March as the Art & DT department held a 3-day exhibition to showcase the work the students have been engaged in during this academic year.
In Art, the younger students proudly presented samples of their mixed media artwork, Islamic geometric pattern and spray painting work amongst other.
KS4 and 5 have been exploring independent thinking projects and experimenting with different materials from plastic to canvas.
In DT, Years 7, 8 and 9 students have completed different projects using a range of materials such as plastic and wood. They also used different types of tools and machines to shape and form materials to a finished product. In Years 10 and 11 the students follow a strict design process and then choose and complete a major project for their IGCSE.
Sixth formers have completed high quality 3D designs using a range of materials, resulting in some outstanding work in product and architectural designs.
Head of DT, Mr Roberts said “I am very fortunate to have a strong team of teachers – Mr Cowden and Mr Read – who give the students the best opportunity to achieve high quality work. The students are very talented and hopefully some of them will go on to be engineers, product designers or architects”.
Head of Art, Miss Jehan Carew, added that ‘the students at KES are creative, talented and hardworking; they have produced work to a high standard and we are extremely lucky to have them. We are also thankful for a great team – Mr Dean O’Connor, Mr Daniel Luke and Miss Shaikha Al Jassim. Together, they have contributed to making the department more forward thinking and have inspired the students to be more engaged with Art’.
The exhibition, superbly organised by Miss Jehan Carew, Mr Harry Roberts and their outstanding Art & Design team, was well attended by enthusiastic students, supportive parents and art-loving staff and community members.
