Head Teacher’s Welcome

Head Teacher

Mrs Frances Lennon

“Inspire, Challenge, Encourage.”

In the Primary School of Kuwait English School we cater for students from Year 1 to Year 6. We are a thriving community of teachers and learners. Together with parents, we aim for the best outcomes for our children.

We want our students to be inquisitive, to question and challenge what they see around them and to look for ways to improve their world. We encourage our students to work collaboratively and to stretch themselves educationally and personally. We wish our students to make sense of their world, respecting others’ right to opinion, and build upon their understanding, through enquiry-based learning, to make connections and move forward and ever upwards. We expect our students to be ambitious for themselves, to recognise and accept their current strengths and weaknesses and to understand that, through effort and practice, all of us can improve and make a greater contribution to our learning community. We guide our students to develop the problem-solving and critical thinking skills required to navigate their path through a digital world. We aim for our students to learn to value the arts and sciences and see the interdependence of these areas of our curriculum and the wider world. Resilience and a growth mindset are strongly encouraged in our students.

We encourage our students to understand  that their efforts are recognised and their individual talents are special to us all. We ensure that our students feel supported so that they dare to make mistakes as they scale new heights.

We strive for our students to be healthy learners, both physically and mentally, and promote a safe balance of study, physical activity and relaxation. The safeguarding of our students is extremely important to us and staff receive up-to-date training in this area. We offer to our students the opportunity to grow academically and socially through a carefully-planned curriculum. We use individual and group assessment data to plan activities which allow our children to build upon their existing knowledge and skills and take the lead in their own learning. KES students are active learners, working productively with their peers to share learning and break boundaries. Students and teachers develop their digital citizenship, fluency and understanding through engaging with opportunities planned through the Google Suite for Education, ensuring that daily Chromebook use equips us with skills to succeed in our ever-changing world. Student effort and performance are carefully monitored throughout the year by teachers and subject coordinators. Leading UK online diagnostic assessment tools are used and learning goals adapted to cater to student needs; reliable and constructive feedback is provided for all concerned. To tap into and encourage our students’ wealth of interests and talents and to benefit from the impressive cultural development within Kuwait, we offer an ever-changing variety of extracurricular activities and visits. Trips to established and recently-developed museums, arts centres and parks in our community give our students additional perspectives on their studies and highlight innovative developments within Kuwait to inspire creativity and ambition. Recent additions to our after-school clubs include: Philosophy Shack, Rugby, Airfix Modelling, Contemporary Dance and Robotics. The performing arts play an important role in our students’ development as confident young people. Our talented staff offer varied performance opportunities for students such as learning a musical instrument and performing in school bands, singing in our Junior Choir, debating in teams, reciting poetry in competitions, performing dance on special occasions and, of course, acting and singing in our wonderful Junior School productions. We offer a wide range of sporting opportunities; our junior sports teams are leaders nationally and compete in international competitions, with a strong focus on our successful swimming teams. We look forward to welcoming you and your child to our teaching and learning community.
