The students of KES made a splash at their annual swimming gala, shattering 12 school records.
Kuwait English School held its annual Senior School Swimming Gala on Tuesday the 5th of March. The girls competed in Qadsiya Swimming Facility, Hawalli, and the boys travelled to Al Sahel Swimming Pool, Fahaheel. Pupils took part in a host of events across a range of different swimming disciplines.
Both events witnessed some outstanding swimming performances and many personal bests were achieved.
The boys managed to break an incredible 8 records between them at their intensely contested gala. Omar El Gengehy was particularly impressive throughout the gala and smashed the Year 8 25 metre Butterfly and 50 metre freestyle records.
The girls, on the other hand, in an extremely competitive competition, achieved 4 new fastest times for the school history books. Eleanor Hall booked herself a place next to her brother in the KES swimming Hall of Fame breaking the 25 metre butterfly and 25 metre freestyle records.
Record-breaking is not easy. To improve an already over-the-top achievement takes persistence, determination and dedication. These students are a true example of young people who display these attributes and represent the school’s spirit of “always going the extra mile”.
Senior School Principal, Mrs Janet Carew, told the students that “the gala was absolutely magnificent” and that she is “very proud of them for participating with such enthusiasm and achieving so much”.
Mrs Rhoda Elisabeth Muhmood, School Director, went on to thank all the staff who helped run the two swimming galas and especially the PE staff who had organised both events; Miss Hughes, Head of Swimming and Mr El Desouki, the school’s full time swim coach.
Mr Horrocks, Director of Sports, presented the medals to the many deserving winners for each of the events and entertained the expectant audience with his humorous comments.
Finally, Jahra House were named the overall champions, amassing a total of 1078 points and prompting wild cheers from their swimmers and supporters.
