Early Years

The Preparatory Department provides a unique learning environment for the youngest children at Kuwait English School. The Department houses KG and Reception children. There are nine Kindergarten classes and seven Reception classes. Please visit our Department, if you are able to, as you will be able to experience the happy, caring, purposeful learning environment we have created for our children.

The Department is located about 100 metres from the main school building and we are fortunate to have a fabulous, recently renovated, self sufficient, Early Years’ Centre in which the children can learn and play. We strive to provide an environment which achieves our vision of inspiring, challenging and encouraging every single one of our children in all aspects of their learning.

The Department is well resourced and the school’s drive towards the 21st Century and technology means that all the classrooms have SMART TVs and tablet computers.

The Department also has two computer suites. Despite this, children need to learn the many skills for everyday life and we provide a broad curriculum that follows the Early Years Foundation Stage of the English National Curriculum to provide children with the important foundation that they need.  We assess children according to the Early Learning Goals at the end of Reception. The Department also has a hall, Music room, sports area and two playgrounds.

The Infant Department consists of Key Stage 1 which caters for Years 1 and 2. Our aim is to provide an environment within which our students can grow in confidence as they progress from their early school years to the challenges of Key Stage 2.

The Infant Department follows the National Curriculum of England and Wales and all resources are purchased from UK.

The classes are of mixed ability and as the fluency of students in the English Language varies considerably, specialist teachers of EFL and Learning Support assist the class teachers in the support, assessment and monitoring of the children. The Learning Support Department also provides opportunities to extend Gifted and Talented students.

The Infant Department is situated in the main building of Kuwait English School. The classrooms are situated in a self contained area. There are 14 classes in Key Stage 1 with their own playground, support rooms and music room. The Department is well resourced with Smart TV’s and computer tablets. Teaching assistants support the class teachers.

Through the Preparatory and Infant Department we believe that working with parents is central to children’s development; we work hard to establish open communication and form partnerships with parents that will last throughout your child’s time at Kuwait English School.
We encourage you to also read our newsletters to get an idea of the number of exciting weekly activities that take place with the youngest of our children. Please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have.

We are lucky to have a dedicated team of teachers and assistants who genuinely care about the children and their development. We ensure the children are central to the learning process and we have high expectations of them both academically and socially. In order to do this, we are always looking at ways of improving the learning experience for the children, whether through the implementation of innovative teaching methods or the enhancement of our resources.
