Secondary School

Introduction

The Senior High School is coeducational and has almost 1000 students of  59 different nationalities aged from 11 to 18 years old. Of these over 500 are in years 7 to 9, about 350 are in years 10 to 11 and the remainder in years 12 and 13, the sixth form. The sixth form caters for students who wish to and qualify to remain at Kuwait English School to study further.

Education is viewed as a cooperative undertaking involving students, staff and parents. By providing the best possible teaching environment within a disciplined framework, we strive to attain a mutual respect between students and staff.

Educational success is valued at the appropriate level for all individuals. Attention is given to the individual needs of all students – including those with learning or language problems and those with exceptional talents. A group of experienced and dedicated Heads of Subject Departments lead teams of well qualified British trained staff to cater for the academic needs of all students. In addition a group of experienced and dedicated Heads of Year lead teams of caring Form tutors to look after the pastoral needs of all students.

There are 63 classrooms with 10 specialist science labs, 3 computer rooms, a drama suite, a separate Humanities block, a music block,  Art and Design Technology Building, An updated senior school Library/Media Centre was completed in 2013. The basement gymnasium area also boasts its own swimming pool, this is shared between the School Department and a dedicated sixth form centre – The Millennium Centre- for those students who stay on into Years 12 and 13. This is a purpose-built suite of classrooms, laboratories and a common room – all devoted exclusively to ‘AS’ and ‘A’ level studies.

At Kuwait English School we believe that the ‘AS’ and ‘A’ level courses are the ideal transition between school and university.  Small classes in the sixth form allow highly qualified and experienced staff to give the individual attention and support that fosters academic success and progress towards personal maturity.

Our aim is to provide a settled environment where studies can be pursued in an adult atmosphere, providing a bridge between school and university.
