Student Leadership

Head Boy, Head Girl and Senior Prefects

The team of Prefects are led by a small group of exceptional Year 13 students known as the Senior Prefects. These students are outstanding in every element of school life particularly in their leadership and management skills. In an attempt to make the team of Senior Prefects more accessible to the younger students they each lead a team of Prefects who work with a specific year group. Responsibilities have included; assisting with the delivery of the tutorial programmes, organising year group student meetings and attending year group trips and outings.

Students in Year 13 have the opportunity to become part of a dynamic Sixth Form Prefect team. The Senior High School Prefects are students from Year 13 with excellent behavioral histories who serve as role models to the students in the rest of the school. The Prefects have numerous duties alongside being role models, such as the monitoring of students in the rest of the school, acting as liaisons between the Sixth Form and the younger years, and participating in and organising many school events. The candidates for Prefect go through a rigorous selection process which takes into account behavioral history, academic and extracurricular history and demonstrated responsibility and organisational skills. These are students who act as mentors, guiding younger students to meet the expectations of Kuwait English School and the community.

Sixth Form Committee

The Sixth Form Committee is a student leadership group led by the Head Girl and Head Boy and comprises the Senior Prefect team and representatives from each of the Year 12 form groups. The group meet on a weekly basis to discuss current issues in the Sixth Form and the whole school. They spearhead many whole school and Sixth Form initiatives such as; the beach barbeque, peer tutoring, the Sixth Form Leavers Dinner, Flower Day, Remembrance Day poppy sales, the Helpers’ Dinner and other charity events and concerts.

Student Council

Kuwait English School has a well-established Student Leadership Council (SLC), with a strong tradition of organising events to raise money for charity.

Each year the students elect a Chairperson and Deputy Chair along with an Executive Committee and representatives from each form and each year group. The whole committee meets once a week to discuss all issues from school improvements through to fun events and they also discuss the charities they want to support for the year.

Over the years they have organised events such as Mufti days, Red nose day, Moustache Day, Masterchef, arm wrestling, wet sponge throwing, Talent shows, musical shows and much more besides.

The charities the students have chosen to support are:

Bayt Abdullah Hospice Kuwait (care for Children/palliative care etc)-KUWAIT
Invisible Children ( [group dedicated to preventing/rescuing child soldiers in Africa]-INTERNATIONAL
