Music

Music makes a major contribution to the balanced programme of subjects within Kuwait English School from Reception up to 6th form and beyond: but music as an academic subject provides a unique set of skills which are acknowledged to be excellent preparation for a range of disciplines, careers and vocations in later years.

Music combines arts, humanities, maths, science and sociology throughout the years and we have a dedicated and enthusiastic staff to enable this. Classroom work covers all aspects of music from performance, listening, theory and composition and helps students build their knowledge in this subject as they travel through the academic years. Students are encouraged to participate in all aspects of music from an early age both within the classroom and through extra-curricular activities which helps develop their independent and group learning, problem solving and develops confidence within our students.

Our GCSE and A-Level course is an exciting and in-depth course which provides plenty of opportunity to progress as a musician in a variety of areas. The course explores a range of disciplines including: Performance, musical history and theory and compositional practices. The course can lead you on to higher education at both university or conservatoire level. It is a varied course which will complement many level 3 courses and is a well-regarded and accepted A-Level into university and industry.

Students are also encouraged to join our instrumental programme in which we offer lessons in trumpet, trombone, flute, clarinet, saxophone, violin and viola. This will then lead to the ensembles which make up our extra-curricular programme. These ensembles are of a very high standard and perform for concerts, prizegiving and graduations throughout the school as well as being active within school productions.

We offer the following as part of our extra-curricular programme

  • Infant choir
  • 2 choirs within Juniors
  • 3 choirs within Seniors
  • Top notes beginner band
  • Senior concert band
  • String orchestra
