Tuesday 23rd and Wednesday 24th of April marked the celebration of two events of great significance for Kuwait English School: the numerous students’ achievements, recognised in a very special Prize Giving ceremony, and the Graduation of those who have successfully completed Year 11, 12 or 13 and are now ready to affront the next stage of their academic journey.
The Arraya Ballroom, Courtyard by Marriott Hotel, was full to capacity on both evenings as proud – and emotional – parents, friends and teachers joined in the celebrations.
During the Prize Giving ceremony 118 Senior School students were recognised for their sporting, artistic, personal and academic accomplishments, a reflection of the successful teaching and learning at Kuwait English School.
The welcome address by Madam Naela Al Saddah, School Vice-Chairman, thanked the students and school staff for their “support” and “ongoing effort” and the higher management for “their encouragement, loyalty and dedication”.
Guest speaker, Maha K. Al-Ghunaim, Vice-Chairman of Global Investment House and one of the 100 most successful women in the world for a consecutive 3 years by Forbes, congratulated the prizewinners and their families and advised the scholars to “remember that your curiosity and determination will lead to your success.” She also spoke about the importance of always doing one’s best and choosing the right people as friends or business associates.
The Graduation Ceremony saw all 231 students collect their certificates with beaming smiles.
Head boy and head girl, Abhishek Brindhaban and Anisha Matheen delivered heartfelt speeches, thanking their educators, their fellow students, and, of course, their parents for all the support and encouragement they had received throughout their school lives. Both Abhishek and Anisha were presented with special prizes in recognition of their valuable contribution to school life.
The second evening’s guest speaker was Professor Yaqoub Alrefaei, the Director General of the Kuwait Institute of Banking Studies and the Director General of PAAET. Mr Alrefaei entreated the students to ‘make their country and the world around them a better place’.
Throughout the evenings the audience and special guests were enthralled by a range of musical interludes. The school band presented by Mr Tarry, the orchestra led by Mr. Markovic and the A Capella Choir by Mr Hassan, wowed those present with some enchanting music, adding to a wonderful evening of celebrations.
