Design and Technology

Why study Design Technology?

  • It will prepare you for life in our technological society.
  • It will develop your creativity to improve the quality of life for yourself and others.
  • It will help improve your knowledge and practical skills.
  • It will make you a more discriminating user of products, which will help you evaluate the social, moral and environmental effects designers have on society.
    •
  • You will gain skills, which will be useful in a wide range of careers such as; product designer, engineer, architect, interior/exterior designer and practical skills that will benefit you for the rest of your life.

The problem-solving nature of Design Technology involves much more than simply the acquisition of practical skills. The design work undertaken will enable students to develop their creativity and flair whilst encouraging self-motivation, time management, and initiative which are essential given the demanding nature of the subject. These skills are necessary through all stages of personal and professional life and will help them prepare for the future.

Design & Technology at KES provides an exciting and creative environment, where students will be encouraged to discover many aspects of the design world. They will be required to combine their design and making skills with knowledge and understanding of materials, processes and design issues. Students will become involved in a process of design methodology in which they identify and solve practical problems in an imaginative yet logical manner. These solutions are presented through the creative use of a range of resistant materials.
