Why study the Pearson Edexcel International GCSE in Economics?

Course Description

Economics covers all areas of our daily life from shops and banks to government and trade. It is a lively, interesting subject, which involves a great deal of reading and hard work. The areas covered include:

  3. Economic Development 
  4. Business and Finance
  5. Taxation and Government Spending
  6. Employment and unemployment
  7. Inflation
  8. International Trade
  9. Population

Examinations

There is no core/extended curriculum option/route. All students sit Papers 1 and 2. The examination board is Pearson Edexcel Economics (4EC1) and the grading system is 9-1.

Paper 1: Microeconomics and Business Economics

50% of the total International GCSE

1 hour 30 minutes

response and open-ended essay questions

Paper 2: Macroeconomics and the Global Economy

50% of the total International GCSE

1 hour 30 minutes

The Future

There are many economics and economics-related degree programs. As a professional economist with the skills and knowledge gained you could find yourself working in almost any field, for example, agriculture, medicine, education, law, energy, and environmental protection. Economics is also a good basis for careers in Management, Accountancy, Insurance, Banking and Government.
